Strategic Assessment

Strategic Vector

PIDSO appears to be a specialized, engineering-led antenna and RF systems company focused on high-value custom solutions for aerospace, UAV, SATCOM, and radar use cases, with an emphasis on lightweight and integrated designs. Its strategy looks like a niche technical platform supported by partnerships, industry positioning, and gradual expansion rather than broad-scale market penetration.

Efficiency Ratio

The company appears to convert a relatively small team into a broad technical offering through strong in-house design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing capabilities, indicating solid resource-to-output efficiency for a niche hardware business.

Evidence Signals

About
Founded in 2006 and based at Wallackgasse 2 in Vienna's 23rd district, PIDSO develops and manufactures high-end antennas, antenna systems and radar technology, positioning itself as a one-stop solution provider for wireless communication. Managing director and founder is DI Dr. techn. Christoph Kienmayer. Around 11 to 50 staff. Registered FN 348498y, UID ATU65806112. The company built its reputation on custom lightweight antennas for unmanned aerial systems, using carbon fibre, foam and other materials to address the weight and durability problems of UAS antennas, and won the Mercur award as Austria's top high-tech innovator in 2010. It has since developed tracking antenna solutions to extend range and improve non-line-of-sight performance for UAS. PRODUCTS. Ultralight aerodynamic blade antennas built specifically for RPAS (SDI.020-00A, SDI.018-00B), an ultra-lightweight broadband peel-and-stick antenna covering 1.7 to 6.0 GHz (SDI.023-00A), customisable RF cable assemblies, complete antenna systems, and radar technology. The company is also an authorised distributor of L-Com Global Connectivity standard antennas and components. APPROACH. In-house research and rapid prototyping, antennas designed around the customer's platform (frequency bands, form factors, radiation patterns, mechanical constraints), and comprehensive RF measurement, simulation and environmental testing against aerospace and defence standards. End-to-end development and manufacture in Austria. STATED CUSTOMERS AND PARTNERS. In Europe: Schiebel, Diamond Aircraft, Hensoldt, Anavia, DTC, Apeleon, Riedel Communications, Silvus Technologies, plus BMW and Porsche. In the United States, through subsidiary PIDSO Inc.: development projects with Boeing and Lockheed Martin, and supply to AeroVironment, Prioria, Scion UAS, Embry-Riddle and 3D Robotics. Boeing has endorsed PIDSO's UAS range-extension solution and engaged the company to develop and integrate it with its small UAS fleet. PIDSO is a partner of Riedel Communications. PROGRAMMES. In July 2026 PIDSO joined a European Defence Fund project, GARUDA, on unmanned collaborative combat aircraft (U-CCA) systems. A separate research project with the European Space Agency is developing a high-performance multi-orbit SATCOM user terminal, described as made in Austria, run across Vienna and Graz. Application segments: aviation, defence, and high-performance sports.
Relevancy
Vienna antenna specialist that built its business on lightweight antennas for drones, and now also does radar. Supplies Schiebel, Diamond and APELEON inside Austria and, through its US arm, works with Boeing and Lockheed Martin. The clearest proof on this map that Austria's drone suppliers form a connected chain rather than a list of separate firms.
