Strategic Vector
RIEGL is positioned as a globally distributed, high-end LiDAR specialist with strong roots in Austria and a clear emphasis on R&D-led product differentiation across airborne, mobile, terrestrial, industrial, and UAV markets.[1][9][11] Its strategy appears focused on scaling advanced sensing capabilities through international offices, expanded facilities, and continued technology leadership in surveying and related applications.[1][15][18]
Efficiency Ratio
RIEGL shows strong resource-to-output efficiency: a comparatively compact workforce is paired with global reach, substantial workspace, and a long-running reputation for specialized, premium LiDAR systems.[1][5][10]

View source- About
- Headquartered at Riedenburgstraße 48 in Horn, Lower Austria, RIEGL builds LiDAR sensors and laser scanning systems. The technical core is pulsed time-of-flight laser ranging across multiple wavelengths, with proprietary waveform processing that resolves range ambiguity, returns multiple targets per laser shot and delivers calibrated amplitude and reflectance. Output is a dense point cloud processed into a precise digital 3D model of the physical world. SIX PRODUCT SEGMENTS. Terrestrial (TLS, static and kinematic), mobile (MLS, from moving platforms), airborne (ALS, from crewed aircraft and helicopters), UAV-based (ULS), bathymetric (BLS, using green laser pulses from airborne or drone-mounted systems to measure water depth and map underwater terrain), and industrial (ILS, for harsh 24/7 conditions). Own software packages ship alongside the sensors, so systems are delivered complete. UAV-RELEVANT LINE. The VUX-820-G is a fully integrated miniaturised topo-bathymetric UAV scanner with RiLOC-F-inside and an onboard RGB camera: up to 2.2 Secchi depths of shallow-water penetration, 15 mm precision, 5.4 kg, and NDAA compliant. It was selected for the Commercial UAV Expo Innovation Spotlight in 2026. The miniVUX-3UAV is in series production with the RiLOC-E subsystem. FOOTPRINT. Four buildings in Horn provide over 6,850 m2 for research, development, production, testing, marketing, sales, training and administration, with a further 32,500 m2 of open ground for alignment and calibration. Worldwide sales, training, support and service run from Austria and the USA, with main offices in Japan and China and a subsidiary and distributor network beyond that. A 2026 technology roadshow ran across five Australian cities. Contact: office@riegl.com, +43 2982 4211.
- Relevancy
- Austria's laser scanning company and a world reference in LiDAR, with a dedicated drone scanner line. Its VUX-820-G is NDAA compliant, meaning US federal buyers can purchase it — one of only two companies on this map cleared for the American government market.
